Clare Gleeson

As joint “Queen of the Jungle” at Neon Zoo, Clare’s role flows through many different veins of the business.

Bachelor of Visual Communications (design)(Honours)

I’m the head Bear handler, and I’m very passionate about Neon Zoo, I love that I work with friends and that I get to meet/and be influenced  by so many different people and business. Abby and I both started the business with design experience only, so learning how to run a business has been a steep learning curve, but 7 years in I feel that were starting to get the hang of it.
Spaces are really important to me, and we work hard to make our studio a fun, creative and comfortable space to be in.
Outside of the Zoo, I have an ever growing collection of chairs, tables and bits and pieces that I fully intend to restore….one day.

What inspires you?
I love hearing other creatives stories, their process, how they got started and how they run their businesses.
Whenever I can I travel, but when I can’t get a trip organised pinterest can sometimes be the next best thing for some daydreaming.
At the moment, I’m renovating my house and am finding being very hands on is really refreshing and inspiring some other side projects.

What’s your creative process?
I always like to start a project with plenty of research and by collecting a stack of reference pictures. I’m bit of a messy worker, so I usually jump from idea to idea, do a rough sketches and have very messy art boards, but I usually always  make it come together in the end. If I’m really stuck for an idea, I find the best thing to do is not think about it for a while, step away from my desk, work on another project and magically something will come to me when I least expect it!

What led you to the ZOO?
Abby and I started freelancing together when we were at Uni, so Neon Zoo was a natural progression.

What’s next for you?
We’ve been working some really exciting zoo side projects, keep an eye on our blog and social media for updates soon!

How do you start your day?
My day usually starts by taking my dog Woof for a walk and after that it’s straight to the coffee shop.

What’s a good day?|
A run before work, a couple of productive clients meetings, some lunch out with the zoo crew and finishing work in time for a trip to the beach.

Tea or coffee?
Coffee in the morning is a must, but then I swap to tea.

Dog or cat?
